Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University is one of new seventeen universities which were established in accordance with the law numbered 5662. However university’s history dates back Vocational School which was established as a part of Selcuk University by the verdiction of the council of higher education dated 08.03.1987. Vocational School which was established as a part of Selçuk University started education opening the departments of Agricultural Devices and Machines and Food Quality and Health Control with the decision of The Council of Higher Education dated 30.08.1987. 

In 1989-1990 academic year, with the departments of Carpets, Slaughtering and Meat Industry, Chemical Technology, in 1992-1993 academic year, with the departments of Ceramic and Milk Technology and in 1995-1996 academic year, with the departments of Mushroom and Computer Programming, there were eight programs in total. In 2001-2002 academic year, the department of Automotive Technology, in 2009-2010 academic year, the department of Banking and Insurance, Pet and Laboratory Animal Breeding, Organic Agriculture, in 2010-2011 academic year, the department of Accountancy and Tax Applications were opened. Today, with regular and evening education programs of Banking and Insurance, Computer Programming, Food Technology, Machine, Architectural and Decorative Arts, Organic Agriculture, Accountancy and Tax Applications, Automotive Technology, the total reached at thirteen, the number of registered students is 1517. 

Ermenek Vocational School was established dependent on Selçuk University with The Council of Higher Education resolution dated 12.12.1990. Switching date is 21.03.1991. In 1991-1992 academic year, it started education with the Construction program. In 1993-1994 academic year, the Electricity program, 2001-2002 academic year, the regular education of computer programming and evening education of construction program were opened. In 2002-2003 academic year, Accountancy and Tax Applications program was opened. In 2005-2006 academic year, Accountancy program evening education and Business Administration program regular education were opened. In 2008-2009, Business Administration evening education and Health Institutions Administration regular education were opened. Today, this school has both regular and evening education of Computer Programming, Electricity, Business Administration, Accountancy and Tax Applications, Health Institutions Administration with regular and evening education of Electricity program. With its current seven programs and 677 registered students in total, it continues education 


Under the Law No. 21281 published in the Official Gazette dated 07.11.1992 and numbered 3837, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established. Business Management Department started education with 52 students in the academic year 1993-1994. Department of Economics was established in the Executive Board meeting of The Council of Higher Education held on 01.26.1995 and in the meeting held on 04.18.1995, 70 students are permitted to have. Economics and Business Administration departments were allowed to receive students for evening school in the meeting held on 02.29.1996 by The Council of Higher Education. In 2001, the Department of Public Administration has been established for normal and evening education and received students for the normal teaching in the academic year 2001-2002 and for evening school 2002-2003 education – So number of programs offered reached 6. Today, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences still continues its educational activities with 3235 students registered in these 6 programs. 

In 1992, School of Health Services has been established according to the protocol dated 09.10.1992 between the Council of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health. Today, it gives education services to 232 registered students under four programs which are Child Development and Care of the Elderly with normal and evening school. 

Kazim Karabekir Vocational School was established in the meeting of The Council of Higher Education dated 09.30.1994 and in 1995-1996 academic year. It started education with the Local Government and Tourism Guidance programs. Today, it still continues education and training with Office Management and Executive Assistance and Local Governments normal and evening school and 3299 students enrolled in the programs. 


School of Health was established in order to increase the efficiency of health services, in accordance with the set objectives of 1st National Health Congress held on 23-27 March 1992 and within the scope of "Health Education Restructuring Project". Scope of this project and in accordance with the decisions of Supreme Council of Health, education of nurses, midwives and health officers should be at the undergraduate level and the execution of the European Union norms and it was decided that the new system should be Country Model. As a result of these developments, with the request of the Ministry of Health and proposal of the Council of Higher Education, under Law No. 2809 in accordance with article 30 the decision of The Council of Ministers dated October 10, 1996 numbered 96/8555 79 School of Health Sciences was established in Turkey including Karaman the School of Health and the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 22 805 dated November 2, 1996. With its 244 students currently registered in nursing education it continues education and training. 

Physical Education and Sports School under Selçuk University has been established by the decision of the Council of Ministers which published in the Official Gazette dated November 18, 1997 and numbered 23174. It started education in 1998-1999 academic year. With 213 students enrolled in Physical Education and Sports department, it continues educational activities. 


Faculty of Arts depending on Selcuk University was established with resolution dated 08.05.2006 and numbered 2006/10735 published in the Official Gazette with No 26 250 by the Council of Ministers.But Faculty of Arts did not admit students immediately.After adherance to Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey university, departments were founded with the meeting of Executive board of Higher education on 19th November, 2008.It was permitted to admit 40 students to Department of History in the meeting of Higher Education Council on 25th March, 2009.It was permitted to admit 40 students to department of Turkish language and Literature with resolution of Higher education council on 27th August,2009 and Department of History started their education with normal placement quotas on the other hand , department of Turkish language and literature with additional placement quotas in 2009-2010 academic year.632 students enrolled in six programs in Sociology , History and Turkish language and literature is still having their education. Kamil Özdağ Faculty of Science was established at the University of Selcuk with a resolution published in the Official Gazette with no 2007/11548 dated 01.20.2007 and numbered 26 409 by the Council of Ministers but the student did not admit immediately. After adherence to Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey university, departments were founded with the meeting of Executive board of Higher education on 19th November 2008, and it was permitted to admit 50 students to Department of Chemistry in the meeting of Higher Education Council on 25th March, 2009.It was permitted to admit 40 students to Department of Biology with resolution of Higher education council on 27th August, 2009. Department of Chemistry started their education with normal placement quotas on the other hand, department of Biology with additional placement quotas in 2009-2010 academic year. It was permitted to admit 40 students for morning education to Department of Physics on 4th March, 2010 and 50 students for evening education to Department of Chemistry and 45 students for evening education to department of Biology on 26th August 2010 at the meeting of Higher education council. Department of Physics started their morning education and department of Chemistry started their evening education and department of biology started their evening education with additional quotas in 2010-2011 academic year.282 students enrolled in five programs in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology is still having their education in Kamil Özdağ faculty of science in 2012. Faculty of Engineering was established with the resolution of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette with no Published in the Official Gazette dated 22 .08.2010.30 students in department of food engineering is still having their education in 2012. The resolution on the establishment of the Faculty of Education, and entered into force on 10th January, 2012 and was published in the Official Gazette with no 28169.Faculty of education will start their education in 2013-2014 academic year. 


There are Institute of Social Sciences and Institute of Science at our university. These institutions continued education dependent on Selçuk University. On 29th of May 2007 May 29, 2007 published in Official Gazette No. 5662 dated and numbered 26 536 Higher Education Institutions of Higher Education Institutions Teaching Staff Organization Law and the Decree on the rosters on the Procedure of the General Staff and the schedules annexed to the Decree Law on the Amendment in accordance with Article 7 of the attached; 77th Organization of Higher Education Institutions Act No. 2809 Annex paragraph (a) under paragraph faculties, (b) Schools under paragraph (c) in the Vocational Schools under paragraph by changing the name and the link is connected to our university established by law. Within the same law (c) Institute of Social Sciences was connected to Rectorship. 

Institute of Science was established connected to the Rectorship. Institute of Science continues education with 2 Departments (Biology, Chemistry) with 69 students; Institute of Social Sciences continues education with 5 departments (Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, Turkish Language and Literature, Physical Education and Sports Teaching) with 128 students. Our university continues education in academic year 2012-2013 with 6 faculties, 2 colleges, 5 vocational schools, 2 institutes and 5 research centers with 8846 students (01.11.2012) and 522 academic and administrative staff.
