CIVIL ENGINEERING
Civil Engineer is a technical staff engaged in training and research about the planning,
projecting, construction and supervision structures responsible for all kinds of buildings, dams,
airports, bridges, tunnels, roads, ports, water treatment structures, wastewater treatment
facilities, water distribution, sewerage systems and industrial buildings. In addition, civil
engineers are powerful executive candidates who can produce fast, practical, economical,
robust and realistic solutions to the problems facing with their analytical thinking ability.
GENERAL FEATURES THAT A CIVIL ENGINEER SHOULD HAVE
It is foreseen that civil engineers who will be employed nationally and internationally should
have the following characteristics at the point of successful professional career and highest
social benefit:
1. Ability to apply mathematics, basic sciences and engineering knowledge,
2. Ability to design and perform an experiment, to do data analysis and to have
interpretation ability,
3. Ability to design a system, components or solution methods with the desired features,
4. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary group,
5. Ability to identify, model and solve problems,
6. Be aware of professional and ethical responsibilities,
7. Ability to communicate effectively,
8. Ability to create wide perspective on the effects of engineering solutions in the universal
and social concept,
9. Ability to continue lifelong learning,
10. Having knowledge about the regulations and other legal legislation in force,
11. Ability to use modern engineering tools, skills and techniques for engineering
applications.

Civil Engineering according to work field, has a very wide coverage area. The field that
construction sector contained is directly related with the basic needs of people and
communities’ requirements such as harbouring, clean water, energy, transportation etc.
Thus, Civil engineering has a prominent position on world economies.

Civil engineering department purposes to educate candidate of civil engineers who have

Being able to manage the identification, modelling and solution processes of an

problems with social, environmental, health and work safety factors.
