The Faculty of Sports Sciences at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University was established by the Cabinet Decision No. 97/10204, published in the Official Gazette on November 18, 1997. On August 21, 2020, the Faculty was transformed into the Faculty of Sports Sciences by Presidential Decree No. 2843, published in the Official Gazette No. 31220. The "Physical Education and Sports Teaching" department started its educational activities in the 1998-1999 academic year.

Starting with 100 students based on the Special Talent Exam, the number of students in our Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department gradually decreased over the years, and a quota of 40 students per year was set. Currently, the department has 142 students, and the total number of graduates is 1,097.

Our department aims to create environments that allow scientific knowledge to be produced by conducting scientific research to maximize educational and teaching goals. Our faculty consists of 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, 2 Lecturers, and 1 Research Assistant.

Our department takes on the mission of producing superior knowledge and providing services to individuals through projects and public service applications that emphasize quality education. To reveal and develop physical and mental competencies, it is necessary to develop individuals in every dimension. Our goal is to ensure lifelong learning for individuals and to train physical education teachers who serve the community and possess contemporary, creative, and critical thinking skills. In addition, we aim to train academicians who participate in scientific and sports activities at local, national, and international levels.

Our department adopts a vision based on a creative, constructivist approach, open to innovation, change, and development, aligned with the principles of Atatürk and supported by the light of sports science. Furthermore, our department cultivates individuals who possess modern, universal values and a high quality of life. We are committed to developing physical education and sports education programs that contribute to contemporary education while producing individuals who will further develop the field.

The mission of the Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department is not only to serve athletes but also to ensure the cognitive, affective, social, and psychomotor development of individuals.

The vision of the Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department is to reach international levels in both education and research and development and to set an example for other institutions and organizations.
