Department Of Chemistry

Establishment

Kamil OZDAG Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry was established on 19.11.2008. The position of Department Chairman has been performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aysel ÇİMEN since 14.04.2017.

Branches of Chemistry

• Analytical Chemistry Department

• Inorganic Chemistry Department

• Biochemistry of Department

• Physicochemistry Department

• Organic Chemistry Department

• Polymer Chemistry Department

The Department of Chemistry teaches graduate and doctoral studies within the Institute of Science. It is planned that the undergraduate education will be activated again in future periods. The undergraduate students who have graduated from the chemistry department are called chemist. Our aim is to equip students with knowledge and laboratory skills so that students can conduct research in the field of chemistry, solve problems related to chemistry, and develop processes in the chemical industry.

In our department, education is carried out with application laboratory studies as well as theoretical courses. In our department, research and student laboratories are available. Our research laboratory has Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Ultraviolet Visible Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Potentiostat and Electrochemical measurement systems. The total number of faculty members and staff are 9:  2 professor, 2 associate professor, 3 assistant professor and 2 research assistants.

Mission and Vision

Chemistry department aims to educate chemists and scientists with scientific and critical thinking ability by analysing the problems encountered in the field of chemistry by using scientific methods and techniques, gaining the ability of problem solving, reviewing and generalization, taking the principle of lifelong learning and continuously improving their professional knowledge and skills.

Goals of the Chemistry Department;

Scientists who have gained the ability to analyse, solve and generalize the problems they encounter in the field of chemistry using scientific methods and techniques, gained scientists who have adopted the principle of lifelong learning, have gained scientific and critical thinking ability by constantly improving their professional knowledge and skills

Scientists who have gained basic knowledge in the subjects of chemistry and subscale branches on chemistry, gained with vocational and general foreign language knowledge to follow scientific and industrial developments, capable of conducting experiments in accordance with laboratory safety using the tools and chemicals related to the chemical field safely, correctly and effectively,

Scientists are able to make basic molecular modelling and theoretical calculations using some special computer programs related to chemistry, taking advantage of information and communication Technologies,

Scientists have gained with the necessary knowledge in national and international quality control management, occupational health and safety and social security issues,

It aims to educate scientist candidates who can communicate effectively between disciplines by combining their knowledge and experience with information from different disciplines and using advanced knowledge about their field to develop projects that can solve the problems in the world and to present solution propositions in an effective way.
