Program History

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established in 1992 under Selçuk University. The Department of Political Science and International Relations began offering instruction in the 2017–2018 academic year with an initial cohort of 120 students.

The Department aims to cultivate qualified individuals capable of analyzing, comprehending, and evaluating a wide range of events and phenomena—from economic, political, and social developments to diplomatic relations and their historical trajectories—through the core principles of political science.

Today, international relations encompass not only interactions and developments between states but also those among societies, civil society organizations, individuals, and transnational actors. The Department of Political Science and International Relations seeks to educate students who can critically examine this complex, multilayered web of global relations; possess strong knowledge and skills in both domestic and foreign policy; are well-versed in conceptual frameworks and theoretical approaches in the fields of international relations and political science; can engage in interdisciplinary research; specialize in their chosen areas; think analytically; and contribute to the nation’s global competitiveness and representation.
