FACULTY OF SPORTS SCIENCES
The School of Physical Education and Sports at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers, numbered 97/10204, and published in the Official Gazette dated November 18, 1997, and numbered 23174. The school was restructured into the Faculty of Sports Sciences through Presidential Decision No. 2843, published in the Official Gazette dated August 21, 2020, and numbered 31220. The faculty began offering education during the 1998-1999 academic year with the “Physical Education and Sports Teaching” department. With the approval of the Higher Education Council (YÖK), as per its letter dated March 22, 2012, and numbered 13569, the Sports Management Department began admitting students in the 2012-2013 academic year. Similarly, with approval from YÖK, as per its letter dated May 28, 2018, and numbered 40131, the Coaching Education Department started accepting students in the 2018-2019 academic year.
The Faculty's Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department initially admitted 100 students through a Special Talent Examination. Over time, this number was gradually reduced, and the annual student quota was set at 40. The quota for the regular program in the Sports Management Department is 50, while that of the evening program is 40. Similarly, the Coaching Education Department has a quota of 50 students for its regular program and 40 for its evening program. As of the end of the 2020-2021 academic year, the Faculty has graduated 1,259 students, comprising 547 women and 802 men. Currently, a total of 894 students are enrolled in the Faculty, including 265 women and 629 men.
Located within the Yunus Emre Campus, alongside other university units, the Faculty houses one indoor sports hall, one artificial turf field, two tennis courts, one basketball court, and a synthetic football field. Educational activities are conducted in our sports hall, which includes facilities for conditioning, step-aerobics, table tennis, and training. Additionally, the Faculty offers one amphitheater, ten classrooms, and one conference hall for theoretical lessons.
The Faculty currently employs a total of 26 academic staff, including six professors, nine associate professors, four assistant professors, two lecturers, and five research assistants. Additionally, there are five administrative staff and five permanent workers.
The Faculty of Sports Sciences is committed to providing high-quality education with the aforementioned academic team and facilities. It aims to nurture competent, ethical, and culturally-aware coaches, sports managers, and physical education teachers who will contribute significantly to society and the educational field.
