Undergraduate Program of Primary Education Department
The aim of this programme is to educate the prospective primary teachers with the knowledge of basic academical issues as well as necessary skills and talents for the profession. Besides, the candidates are educated for combining the theoretical knowledge with practice, being the right model for their students as an individual and a teacher, the ability to develop personally and managing time efficiently, communicate effectively, the responsibility of obeying the scientific ethical rules, being sensitive to human beings, society and nature, and being aware of the importance of life-long learning. Occupational Profiles of Graduates A graduate of this program is employed as a "Primary Teacher" in the state and private primary schools. In addition, they can continue their academic career studying post-graduate courses. Quota And Points The student quota of the Undergraduate Program of Primary Education Department is approximately 60. The undergraduate program is based on the TM-2 score. According to the results of LYS in 2016, the minimum score for Primary Education Undergraduate Program is 357, 55432. PROGRAM DEFINITIONS
CURRICULUM
Establishment
The first program of the Faculty of Education established in 2012. The Primary Education Program started education in 2016. The Primary Education Program is one of two programs within the Department of Basic Education.
Qualification Awarded
Graduates who have successfully completed the Classroom Education Program will receive a 'Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education'.
Grade Level
Bachelor's Degree
Requirements of Competence and Regulations
Necessary competence requirement for graduation is successful completion of all of the courses within the program (total 240 ECTS credits) and having a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Program Profile
The purpose of the Primary Education Program is to provide teacher candidates with the basic knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for their professional lives to combine theoretical knowledge with field experience, create a correct model for their students in their personal and professional lives, monitor developments closely, manage time efficiently, communicate effectively, adopt scientific and ethical rules, be aware of the importance of lifelong learning, be sensitive to humanity, community and nature.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduates of this program are employed as a "Primary Teacher" in the state and private schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. In addition, graduates can work as academicians at universities provided that they have necessary competence. Program graduates are regularly employed by the Ministry of National Education every year. In addition, since Primary Education Program is the first step in compulsory education, graduates are always needed in private education institutions.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to post-graduate programmes both in their own or related disciplines provided that they have an adequate score in ALES and certify their proficiency in English.
Examinations, Assessment and Grading
A two-stage examination system is applied in the undergraduate program of Primary Education Program. Mid-term exams are held during the ninth week of the semester for compulsory and elective courses. Midterm exam grades constitute forty percent of students' course grade. In addition, final exams are applied at the end of the semester. As a prerequisite to success a student must get at least 60 or higher score in the final exam, otherwise s/he fails regardless of the visa grade. The final exam grades of the students who are successful in the final exam constitute sixty percent of the course achievement grade. The courses that do not have midterm and final exams are assessed through grading the reports, projects, materials, presentations etc. is assessed through the scoring of studies.
