Goal

The Department of Child Development trains Child Development Specialists who can evaluate 0-18 year-old normally developing or disabled, orphaned, working, immigrant, delinquent and hospitalized children’s mental, linguistic, motor, social and emotional development and self-care skills, and who can help children, families, educators and the society in supporting all areas of development and skills.

To educate professional members, who lead families, children and educators with their contemporary and advanced education and level of knowledge, enhances and modernize themselves according to society's changing and developing needs, establishes an effective communication. In addition, to be known nationally and internationally as one of the leading institution on the counselling via research, publication and training services for families, children and educators; to contribute to the formation of a society which has qualified individuals appreciating their own culture and have universal values.

Program Description

Department of Child Development is an undergraduate program with four-year education.

Admission Requirements

Students will be able enroll the program provided that they get the required score as determined by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). 

Graduation Requirements

As stated in Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University Education and Examination Regulation, students are required to be successful in all courses including applied ones and they must complete 240 ECTS credits at least.

Child development specialists work as an expert, adviser, founder, organizer and inspector in Family Research Institution of Prime Ministry, Presidency of Administration for Handicapped, State Planning Organization, nurseries and orphanages of Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Family Health Centres, hospitals, child hospitals and hospital schools of Ministry of Health, juvenile courts and education houses of Ministry of Justice, Ministry of National Education, General Directorate of Primary Education, General Directorate of Special Education, Guidance and Counselling  Services, Counselling and Research Centres,  Public Education Centres, Board of Education and Discipline, preschools, special education care and rehabilitation centres, preparation and conduct of TV and radio programs and education programs for children and youth, child theatres and movies, books, magazines and newspapers for children, production of educational toys, UNICEF, ILO and voluntary agencies and non-governmental organizations.
