Building Materials I (3 0 3) ECTS: 6
In the course of building material I; how physical, chemical and mechanical properties of materials
are determined. It is also aimed to give basic information to the students in defining materials
properties such as shape change and measurement methods, rheology, viscoelasticity, periodic
loading and fatigue in materials. In the second phase of the course, students are aimed to gain basic
information about engineering metals and alloys, polymers, ceramics and glass materials,
bituminous materials and wood.

Building Materials II (2 2 3) ECTS: 6
Physical and mechanical properties of concrete, which is the most widely used material in Civil
Engineering, are examined in detail in Building Materials II course. Firstly, it is aimed to give
basic information about concrete components to students and to make concrete design. In the
second part of the course, it is aimed to provide basic information about quality control and
durability properties of hardened concrete.
