Back Cover Text:

Nazareth, which is considered the place where Jesus spent his childhood and where his mother Mary received the holy news, has reached an important position in the Christian world. This center, which bears the traces of different periods throughout history, has also become a place of pilgrimage for Christian pilgrims. Nazareth, which remained under Ottoman rule for a long time, was a town where various Christian groups, especially Latins, and Muslims lived. In addition to its religious identity, this town took a position as a district center in the Ottoman administrative organization. In this study, which focuses on a period extending from the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, both the religious and administrative aspects of Nazareth are discussed together. From here, the civil service and institutions within the administrative organization of Nazareth, as well as developments related to administrative regulations, were discussed. In addition, the settlement characteristics of Nazareth and the structures belonging to religious communities in the town were emphasized as a location. Details related to the Muslim, Latin, Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant communities living here were followed. Moreover, after the migration, the re-association of the Jews with Nazareth and developments related to this issue were also included in the scope of our study. Because this issue, which emerged throughout the geography of Palestine, occupied the Ottoman administration for a long time and Nazareth was also included in this process.
