The “Turkish Historical Society 100th Anniversary Library,” established through the collaboration between the Turkish Historical Society and Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University (KMÜ), was opened to readers following an official inauguration ceremony.

The opening ceremony, held at the KMÜ Library and Documentation Department, was attended by Karaman Member of Parliament Osman Sağlam, President of the Turkish Historical Society Yüksel Özgen, KMÜ Rector Mehmet Gavgalı, Vice Rector İdris Nebi Uysal, as well as local and university officials, academic and administrative staff, and students.

Within the scope of the library established by the Turkish Historical Society, a total of 1,138 works—including 851 books and 287 journals—covering various disciplines such as language, history, literature, sports, fine arts, social sciences, and periodicals were incorporated into the KMÜ Library collection. In this respect, the library aims to contribute to interdisciplinary studies and to enhance access to knowledge for students and researchers.

In his opening speech, KMÜ Rector Mehmet Gavgalı stated:
“It is a great source of pride for us to present this special library, established with the valuable contributions of the Turkish Historical Society, to the service of our university. Our students, as well as our academic and administrative staff, will benefit from this library. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Turkish Historical Society and to everyone who contributed to bringing these valuable works, which will further strengthen the academic infrastructure of our university.”

“The truest guide in life is science”

In his remarks, the President of the Turkish Historical Society, Yüksel Özgen, referred to the institution’s recent activities and stated:
“Today, we are inaugurating the 33rd Turkish Historical Society 100th Anniversary Library at KMÜ. With this project, we primarily aimed to draw attention to books and libraries. Inspired by the saying ‘The truest guide in life is science,’ we sought to emphasize the importance of science, knowledge, and books. At the same time, we aimed to highlight the 100th anniversary of our Republic and the work of the Turkish Historical Society. We believe that the publications of our institution—founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and closely followed by him—occupying a special place in university libraries is crucial for strengthening historical awareness and increasing young people’s access to books. Today, we are pleased to realize the 33rd installment of this project together. I would like to thank everyone who contributed and all participants.”

“I believe KMÜ’s achievements will continue to grow”

Karaman Member of Parliament Osman Sağlam emphasized in his speech:
“The inclusion of this valuable collection, consisting of distinguished works of the Turkish Historical Society, into our university is of great importance. Our institution has a long-standing tradition of meticulously examining its publications and grounding them in reliable sources. In this regard, the work of the Turkish Historical Society is highly valuable. It is also meaningful that this opening took place following Library Week. Our university has achieved significant success at the international level, and I believe that these qualified resources will further enhance its achievements. I would like to thank everyone involved, especially our Rector, as well as the readers and library staff. I am confident that our university will continue to contribute to science and scholarship in the future.”

Following the speeches, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by protocol members. After the opening, participants toured the library and had the opportunity to examine the works donated by the Turkish Historical Society.

With its rich content, the “Turkish Historical Society 100th Anniversary Library” will contribute to the scientific and cultural accumulation of KMÜ and serve as an important reference resource for students and academics.
