Main Objective of Our Department
The Software Development undergraduate program within the Faculty of Science at Kamil Özdağ Faculty of Science, Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, aims to educate qualified individuals who can design, develop, and produce sustainable software solutions in a technology-driven world. In addition to providing a strong foundation in algorithms and programming that form the basis of software engineering, the program seeks to ensure that students gain proficiency in modern software technologies, development methodologies, and project management skills.
Targeted Competencies and Skills
Throughout their education, our students gain competence in all stages of the software development life cycle; they learn to effectively manage analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintenance processes. During this process, they develop the ability to efficiently use modern programming languages, software development tools, version control systems, and contemporary software architectures. In particular, they are encouraged to design projects in areas such as web, mobile, and desktop application development, cloud computing, artificial intelligence integration, and cybersecurity, producing solutions that address real-world needs.
Our graduates are expected to approach the problems they encounter with an analytical, systematic, and innovative mindset, and to develop user-centered, scalable, and sustainable software solutions. Among our priorities is educating professionals who can adapt to teamwork, effectively use project management and collaboration tools, and conduct software development processes in accordance with quality standards. The program also places strong emphasis on developing individuals with high awareness of software ethics, data security, and intellectual property rights.
Today, software development plays a key role in producing innovative solutions across many sectors, from industry and healthcare to finance and education. In this context, our department adopts a contemporary educational approach that integrates software engineering principles and algorithmic foundations with practice-oriented projects and industry collaborations. As a result, our students graduate with the qualifications needed to compete in both national and international software industries.
Employment Opportunities
Software Development graduates can find employment opportunities across a wide range of fields in both the private and public sectors in today’s world, where technology permeates every aspect of life. The demand for these professionals—who solve problems through the power of software, produce innovative solutions, and lead digital transformation—is continuously increasing. In Türkiye, there is significant employment potential in this field, particularly through technoparks, R&D centers, and the growing startup ecosystem. These opportunities can be summarized by sector as follows:
In the Public Sector, graduates may be employed in ministries and affiliated institutions; TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute) and other data-oriented institutions; regulatory and supervisory bodies such as the Central Bank, BDDK, and SPK; municipalities and local governments; the Presidency of Defense Industries, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), and affiliated security institutions; academic institutions; and research centers such as TÜBİTAK.
In the Private Sector, graduates may find employment in a wide range of fields, including technology and software companies; finance and banking; telecommunications; e-commerce and retail; healthcare; manufacturing and industry; game development; consulting firms; media and entertainment; and educational technologies.
