PUBLICATION ETHICS AND PRINCIPLES

Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University International Journal of Art and Design (KMU IJAD) is committed to the development and dissemination of knowledge in an impartial and respectable manner. In the publication process, it expects authors, readers, researchers, publishers, reviewers and editors to follow the principles related to ethical rules. These stakeholders should be aware of the standard general and specific ethical rules and responsibilities as set out below, in accordance with the Open Access Guidelines published by the Higher Education Institution (HEI) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
 
1. General actions that violate scientific research and publication ethics
 
a) Plagiarism: Presenting the original ideas, methods, data, applications, writings, forms, or works of others as one's own, in whole or in part, without citation in accordance with the rules of scientific ethics,
 
b) Falsification: Producing data not based on research, editing or modifying the submitted or published work based on unreal data, reporting or publishing it, presenting research that has not been carried out as if it had been carried out,
 
c) Falsification: Falsifying research records and the data obtained, presenting methods, equipment and materials not used in the research as if they had been used, excluding data that do not fit the research hypothesis, manipulating data or results to fit the theory or assumptions at hand, falsifying or shaping research results to fit the interests of the persons and organisations receiving funding,
 
ç) Double publication: Presenting more than one paper containing the same research results as separate papers in academic appointments and promotions,
 
d) Slicing: Presenting the results of research as separate works for the purposes of certain examinations and academic incentives and promotions, by inappropriately dividing the results of research into parts in a way that compromises the integrity of the research, and by producing a large number of publications without citation,
 
e) Unfair authorship: Including people who have not actively contributed among the authors of the article, failing to include people who have actively contributed among the authors, changing the order of authorship in an unjustified and inappropriate manner, removing the names of active contributors from the work during publication or in subsequent editions, using influence to have his/her name included among the authors when he/she has not actively contributed,
 
f) Other types of ethical violations: Failure to clearly identify the persons, institutions or organisations providing support and their contributions to the research in publications of research conducted with support; Failure to follow ethical rules in research involving humans and animals; Failure to respect patients' rights in publications; Sharing with others the information contained in a work he/she was assigned to review as a referee prior to publication; Misuse of resources, places, facilities and equipment provided or assigned for scientific research; Making completely unfounded, unjustified and deliberate accusations of ethical violations (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 8).
 
2. Responsibilities of the actors
 
a) Responsibilities of the Editors
 
The Editor and Associate Editors of KMU IJAD have the following ethical duties and responsibilities based on the principles of the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors) and the Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):
 
- Editors are responsible for each publication published in KMUIJAD.
 
- Editors have the responsibility and authority to accept or reject articles. They must exercise this responsibility and authority in an appropriate and timely manner.
 
- Editors should not have any conflict of interest regarding the articles they accept or reject. 
 
- Editors should accept articles that are original and contribute to the field.
 
- Editors should reject incomplete and erroneous research that does not comply with the journal's policies, publication rules, and standards without influence. 
 
- Editors should allow inaccurate, incomplete, and problematic articles to be withdrawn before or after peer review, or to be published after correction. 
 
- Editors shall ensure that manuscripts are evaluated by at least two referees using a double-blind review system and shall maintain the confidentiality of the referees.
 
- Editors continue their work processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards.
 
- The editors take responsibility for the plagiarism status of the articles and whether they are unpublished original research using Turnitin and/or Ithenticate plagiarism software.
 
- The editors take into account the knowledge, skills and experience required by all readers, researchers and practitioners.
 
- The Editors will ensure that published issues contribute to the readers, researchers, practitioners and the discipline and are of original quality.
 
- The Editors ensure that all Advisory Board members move the process forward in accordance with the Publication Policy and Guidelines.
 
- Editors inform Advisory Board members of the publication policy.
 
- Editors ensure that Advisory Board members evaluate their work independently.
 
- Editors may provide input to new Advisory Board members and make decisions as appropriate.
 
- Editors should submit manuscripts for review that are appropriate to the expertise of the advisory board members.
 
- Editors communicate regularly with the Advisory Board.
 
- Editors organise regular meetings with the Editorial Board to discuss editorial policy and the development of the journal.
 
- The relationship between the Editors (Editor and Associate Editors) and the Publisher is based on the principle of editorial independence. According to the written agreement between the editors and the publisher, all decisions of the editors are independent of the publisher and the journal owner.
 
 b) Authors' responsibilities
 
- It should be declared that all data in the article are real and original.
 
- The status of plagiarism, errors, suspicious situations and suggested corrections as a result of preliminary evaluation or peer review are mandatory. If not, a consistent justification should be provided.
 
- The 'References' of the article or research should be complete and in accordance with the spelling rules of our journal.
 
- Plagiarism and falsification of data should be avoided.
 
- It should not be possible to publish the research in more than one journal.
 
 c) Referees' responsibilities
 
The management of our journal is committed to the successful implementation and improvement of the refereeing process within the framework of ethical publishing rules. It welcomes the stakeholders and readers of the researches to report plagiarism, double publication, inaccuracy, suspicious contents or situations they see in the reviews published in Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University International Journal of Art and Design to IJAD@kmu.edu.tr e-mail address. It will inform the relevant parties about the data and results obtained on the issue and follow up. It is based on the following principles for referees.
 
 * Evaluations should be impartial.
 
* There should be no conflict of interest between the referees and the stakeholders of the article under review.
 
* Completion of other articles, artefacts, references, citations, rules and similar deficiencies related to the article should be pointed out.
 
* Articles evaluated using the double-blind refereeing system or their referees will not be disclosed.  
 
3. Plagiarism Policy
 
Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University International Journal of Art and Design (kmuIJAD) has started to check the papers submitted for publication through plagiarism software (Turnitin or iThenticate) as of June 2024. The author should send a document showing the plagiarism rate with the paper. Papers with a plagiarism rate (excluding references and including 5 or more words) above 15% will not be evaluated and will be returned to the author. If a paper published in the journal is found to be plagiarised, the Editorial Board reserves the right to take various actions, including withdrawal of the paper, notification of the head of department, dean and/or relevant authorities in the institution where the author works.
 
4. Protection of personal data
 
The Editorial Board guarantees the protection of the personal data of the persons or images included in the evaluated work. Those who contribute to the journal (editors, authors and reviewers) will be provided with the documents relating to their contributions on request.
 
5. Ethics committee, human and animal rights
 
The editors ensure that human and animal rights are protected in the evaluated studies. The editors have the responsibility to reject a study if there is no ethics committee approval for the subjects used in the study and no approval for experimental research.
 
6. Potential abuse and action
 
Editors take precautions against possible misconduct and abusive behaviour. In addition to conducting a rigorous and objective investigation to identify and evaluate complaints about such situations, the editor is responsible for reporting the relevant findings to the appropriate authorities.
 
7. Ensuring the integrity of scholarly publications
 
Editors shall ensure the prompt correction of errors, inconsistencies or misleading assessments in papers.
 
8. Protection of intellectual property rights
 
Editors shall protect the intellectual property rights of all published articles, defend the rights of the journal and authors in the event of any infringement, and take the necessary measures to ensure that the content of all published articles does not infringe the intellectual property rights of other publications.
 
9. Constructivism and openness to debate
 
The editors shall take into account criticism of works published in the journal and shall respond constructively to such criticism in accordance with the purpose and scope of the journal. Authors of criticised papers have the right to reply. Studies with negative results will be rejected.
 
10. Complaints
 
The editors are obliged to consider complaints carefully and to respond to authors, reviewers or readers in an informative and explanatory manner.
 
11. Political and commercial interests
 
The owner of the journal, the publisher, and no other political or commercial factors can influence the independent judgement of the editors.
 
12. Conflicts of interest
 
The editors guarantee and assure authors and reviewers that the publication process of the journal will be conducted in an independent and impartial manner.
