KMU Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Öztaş Yıldız Invited to the World's Most Prestigious Mathematics Congress

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Segah Öztaş Yıldız, a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University (KMU) Kâmil Özdağ Faculty of Science, achieved a significant international success by being invited as a speaker to the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM-2026), considered one of the most prestigious events in the mathematics world.

Bringing together leading mathematicians from all around the world every four years, the congress was held this year in Philadelphia, USA, between July 23–30, 2026, with the participation of approximately 3,000 scientists. Supported through the collaboration of the Simons Foundation and the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the latest developments in mathematical sciences were discussed at the event.

Alongside scientific presentations, the ICM serves as the main platform where the most distinguished awards in the mathematics world are presented. Historic accolades such as the Fields Medal—known as the "Nobel Prize of Mathematics" awarded to extraordinarily successful mathematicians under the age of 40—and the Chern Medal, which honors lifetime achievement, found their recipients as part of the congress.

In this prestigious organization hosting scientists from the world's most renowned universities—such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, and Toronto—Türkiye and Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University were represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Segah Öztaş Yıldız. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Öztaş Yıldız participated as a speaker with her presentation titled "Determination of intron regions in DNA sequences using coding theory".
