Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey ( .... - 1280)
He is Kerim üd-Karaman’s son who is the second ruler of Karamanids.Birthdate of him isn’t obvious. The date of death is in 1280. Mehmet Bey was a wise statesman in terms of military and administration. He gave importance to scientists. Seldjuks used Persian in literature, They used Arabic in state affairs in the middle of 13 century on the other hand citizens use their native language, Turkish. Mehmet Bey believed that the prerequisite for living as a nation is to provide association of language. To accomplish this, he raised an army by gathering all Turkmen clans on Taurus Mountains around him. He beat the forces of Seldjuks and Mongols and captured Konya. Seljuq Tıurks collaborate with Karamanoğulları.
In a short time,Konya and other cities put under the command of Karamanoğulları. After that, Mehmet Bey brought sultan of Seldjug, İzzettin Keykavus’son Gıyaseddin Siyavuş into power.
Although he bear against the pressure of Mongols victoriously and beat them many times, he executed with his two brothers in a combat. He declared Turkish as a official language during his administration. In his firman, he said ; ”Starting from today, in dervish convent, in council, in the palace, in parliament and in squares, no language other than Turkish is allowed” So, he won a victory politically, militarily and culturally.
