Department Overview

History and Academic Structure: Operating within the Faculty of Letters, our Department of Translation and Interpreting comprises five distinct Departments under its academic umbrella: German, Arabic, Persian, French, and English Translation and Interpreting. The institutional development process of our department has followed a gradual structure; in this context, the admission of students and the educational process at the undergraduate level were first initiated with the Division of Arabic Translation and Interpretation. In line with the department's academic expansion strategy, the Division of German Translation and Interpretation, the Division of Persian Translation and Interpretation, and the Division of French Translation and Interpretation were subsequently activated, respectively, commencing student admissions and being integrated into educational activities.

Educational Objectives and Program Outcomes: The discipline of Translation and Interpreting holds strategic importance due to the "bridge" role it assumes in establishing cultural, economic, and political dialogue on an international level. In this direction, the primary academic objective for students choosing the Department of Translation and Interpreting at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University is to provide the highest level of competence in performing both written and oral translation between source and target languages, as well as professional acquisition, throughout the four-year undergraduate education. The program aims to train individuals equipped to meet the qualified language expert needs of the public and private sectors.

Career Opportunities and Employment Areas: Students who successfully graduate from the program have a wide range of career opportunities. The main areas where our graduates can be employed are as follows:

  • European Union projects and similar international organizations,
  • Embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions,
  • National and international media organizations,
  • Multinational companies and corporate firms operating on a global scale.
  •

Our graduates can serve in these institutions with the titles of "Translator" and "Interpreter."

Entrepreneurship and Academic Progression: In addition to corporate employment opportunities, our graduates possess the competence to operate independently in the free market by establishing their own translation businesses with the professional equipment they have acquired. Furthermore, there are opportunities for our graduates who wish to pursue an academic career to take part in the teaching staff of universities. In this context, graduates of our department have the opportunity to specialize and advance in the academic field by continuing their postgraduate education at the master's and doctoral levels in relevant branches of science.
