General Information About Department of German Translation and Interpreting

Department of German Translation and Interpreting of the Department of Translation and Interpreting started to admit students in the 2018-2019 academic year. The duration of education is four years and students are required to take one year of compulsory German Preparatory Class to transfer to the undergraduate program.

Teaching Approach and Content

The German Translation and Interpreting undergraduate program aim to provide students with translation and interpreting skills in German. The teaching provided in our department provides students with a solid background in basic areas such as grammar, vocabulary, text analysis, translation theories and techniques. In addition, translation courses and practicums in different specializations (law, medicine, technical, literature, etc.) support students to deepen their interests and career goals. Students are also provided with the opportunity to use modern translation technologies effectively. Students gain knowledge and experience in computer-assisted translation software (Trados, etc.), translation memory systems, terminology management tools and other translation aids and are trained in accordance with the requirements of the sector. In addition to the compulsory English course, students are also taught 3rd and 4th foreign languages (French and Russian) throughout their undergraduate education. Our students also can receive pedagogical formation during their undergraduate education.

Teaching Staff

A total of 6 academic staff, including 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, 1 doctoral research assistant and 1 research assistant, work in the Department. In addition to our lecturers affiliated to the department, we receive support from the lecturers working in the School of Foreign Languages and the lecturers working in the relevant departments for our compulsory and elective courses in French, English and Russian. Our lecturers not only transfer academic knowledge to students but also guide their career journeys by sharing their professional experiences.

Facilities of the Department

Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University offers its students various facilities such as modern classrooms, library facilities, computer laboratories and internet access. Students of the Department of Translation and Interpreting can continue their education efficiently by making the most of these opportunities. They can also find the opportunity to get to know different cultures and improve their language skills through international student exchange programs such as the Erasmus+ program. The Department of German Translation and Interpreting currently has Erasmus+ bilateral agreements with 3 different universities from 3 different countries:

Bulgaria - University of Veliko Turnovo St Cyril and St. Methodius

Macedonia - Goce Delchev University

Poland - Kazimierz Wielki University
