Department Overview History and Academic Structure: The Division of Arabic Translation and Interpretation, operating under the Department of Translation and Interpreting at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, commenced its student admission in the 2017-2018 academic year. Our division offers a four-year undergraduate program aimed at providing qualified language education and professional formation. To ensure students can effectively follow the departmental courses and commence their undergraduate studies, a mandatory one-year Arabic Preparatory Class is implemented. This preparatory process serves as an academic infrastructure designed to maximize the students' basic competency in the target language. Educational Objectives and Curriculum Scope: The Arabic Translation and Interpretation Undergraduate Program has a comprehensive curriculum aimed at enabling students to achieve the highest level of competence in both written and oral translation between the source language (Turkish) and the target language (Arabic). The primary objective of the program goes beyond linguistic proficiency; it aims to train translators and interpreters who command cultural codes, possess professional ethics and equipment, and demonstrate analytical thinking skills.
Throughout the educational process, students are not only taught grammatical rules and basic translation techniques but are also provided with in-depth knowledge in interdisciplinary fields such as text analysis, comparative linguistics, and translation theories. The program is structured with an approach based on putting theoretical knowledge into practice. In this context, applied translation courses are offered in various fields requiring specialization, such as law, literature, media, health, and religious texts. Thus, students are prepared for the sectoral diversity and terminological challenges they will encounter after graduation. Furthermore, "Computer-Assisted Translation" (CAT) tools and technologies, which are indispensable parts of the contemporary translation sector, are taught within the scope of the program, thereby enhancing the digital competencies of the students.
Academic Staff: Our division possesses a strong teaching staff consisting of experts who contribute to academic literature. Currently, a total of 8 academic staff members serve in our department, including 5 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant. The quantitative and qualitative richness of our teaching staff allows students to deepen their knowledge in various areas of specialization.
Physical Infrastructure and Facilities: Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University offers a modern campus infrastructure to ensure students can maintain their educational processes most efficiently. Department students benefit from facilities such as technologically equipped modern classrooms, a university library with a comprehensive inventory, computer laboratories, and uninterrupted internet access. These physical facilities actively support students' processes of conducting research, developing projects, and applying translation technologies. |
