Main Objective of Our Department
The Data Science and Analytics undergraduate program, offered under the Faculty of Science at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, aims to educate students who are capable of understanding, managing, and generating value from data in an increasingly digitalized world. Our program not only provides a strong mathematical and statistical foundation — the core principles of data science and analytics — but also enables students to gain proficiency in modern programming languages and develop effective algorithmic thinking skills.
Targeted Competencies and Skills
Throughout their education, students learn to work with different types of data, use database management systems effectively, and extract meaningful patterns from large datasets using machine learning and deep learning — key components of artificial intelligence applications. The program prioritizes equipping students with advanced capabilities such as designing AI-based solutions, deriving insights from complex data, and building automated decision-support systems.
Our graduates are expected to approach real-world problems with analytical and critical thinking, proposing innovative and data-driven solutions. It is among our primary goals to train professionals who can effectively utilize big data technologies, present analytical outcomes clearly, and work harmoniously within multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, the program emphasizes data privacy, security, ethical awareness, innovative thinking, and entrepreneurial potential.
Today, there is a rapidly increasing demand for experts who can manage data-driven processes in both academia and industry. In line with this demand, our curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practice-oriented projects and real-world problem-solving, offering a contemporary and application-focused educational approach.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the Data Science and Analytics program have a wide range of career opportunities in both the public and private sectors. They may work in governmental institutions (such as TURKSTAT, ministries, the Central Bank, local administrations, and the defense industry) as well as in diverse fields within the private sector, including finance, banking, e-commerce, healthcare, energy, telecommunications, software, manufacturing, and media.
They can assume critical roles such as data scientist, data analyst, artificial intelligence specialist, statistician, biostatistician, or risk analyst, engaging in data collection, analysis, modelling, reporting, and strategic decision-support development. Our graduates may also pursue an academic career and work as researchers or lecturers at universities.
