Our program aims to prepare students for the dynamics of a data-driven world by developing specific competency sets each academic year. Throughout the four-year undergraduate education, we provide a learning journey that ranges from foundational theoretical knowledge to advanced practical applications.
Year 1: Building Analytical Thinking and Programming Foundations
The first year focuses on establishing the mathematical and statistical groundwork that enhances students' analytical thinking skills. At the same time, they gain algorithmic reasoning skills, learning the fundamental principles of programming and data structures. Students develop problem-solving approaches and acquire competence in using basic information technologies.
Year 2: Developing Data-Driven Skills and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
In the second year, students begin improving their abilities in data collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation. They gain the ability to interact with data through effective use of database systems and structured query languages. Students learn to present analytical findings effectively using data visualization techniques. This year also provides an introduction to fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches such as unsupervised learning.
Year 3: Advanced Analytical Techniques and Specialization Tracks
The third year focuses on enabling students to comprehend and implement advanced machine learning algorithms, including supervised learning and deep learning. Analytical skills are enhanced in specialized areas such as signal and image processing, while students also gain knowledge in big data analytics and high-performance computing. They develop awareness of ethical, legal, and societal dimensions of data science and begin planning career-oriented specialization paths.
Year 4: Comprehensive Project Development and Industry Applications
The final year is dedicated to enabling students to apply their accumulated knowledge and skills to real-world problems through comprehensive graduation projects and internship practices. Advanced and current concepts such as cloud computing platforms, Internet of Things technologies, and cybersecurity principles are explored. Students strengthen their competencies in independent research, project management, and multidisciplinary teamwork, preparing for professional life.
General Competencies and Elective Specialization:
Throughout the program, students’ English and Turkish language skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication abilities are continuously supported. Through a wide range of elective courses offered within and outside the field, students have the opportunity to specialize in areas aligned with their interests and career goals—such as financial technologies, social media analytics, game theory, and explainable artificial intelligence. Mandatory internships allow the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge with industry experience.
