With the aim of increasing efficiency in healthcare services, the “Project for the Restructuring of Health Education” was launched in line with the objectives set at the 1st National Health Congress, held between March 23–27, 1992. As part of this project and following the decisions of the High Health Council, it was decided that the education of nurses, midwives, and health officers should be conducted at the undergraduate level and in line with European Union standards, with the goal of making the new system a “National Model”. As a result of these developments, upon the request of the Ministry of Health and the proposal of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), 79 Schools of Health were established across Turkey by the decision of the Council of Ministers (dated October 10, 1996, Decision No. 96/8555) under Article 30 (Additional) of Law No. 2809. This decision was published in the Official Gazette on November 2, 1996 (Issue No. 22805).

Following the establishment of these Schools of Health, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of Health and the Council of Higher Education on November 22, 1996. According to this protocol, it was decided that education would take place in the buildings of health vocational high schools, and thus Karaman School of Health was established.

Originally operating as the Karaman School of Health, undergraduate (4-year) education began in 1997 under Selçuk University. In 2007, it continued as part of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University (KMU), under the name Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University School of Health, and was relocated to its own building on the Yunus Emre Campus.

With the Council of Higher Education’s approval for the establishment of a Faculty of Health Sciences at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University (KMU), the Council of Ministers’ decision regarding the establishment of the faculty was published in the Official Gazette on April 8, 2016 (Issue No. 29678). In accordance with this decision, the School of Health was closed, and the Faculty of Health Sciences was established in its place. With an academic history spanning nearly two decades, our faculty is one of the most well-established schools within the KMU family.

As the Faculty of Health Sciences, our ultimate goal is,

to raise qualified healthcare professionals who love their country and nation, possess high self-confidence, and never compromise on quality and dedication in professional life.

We wish all our students who choose us a happy, peaceful, and successful academic journey, supported by a caring administration, expert academic staff, and dedicated administrative personnel who view each student as entrusted to them until graduation.
