INNOVATION THROUGH ICT IN CARE HOMES

DEVELOPING INNOVATION WITH INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN ELDERLY CARE HOMES

 

The main goal of our project is to support the necessity of increasing the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in nursing homes for the elderly, which is determined as a specific need by the European Health Commission. Based on this goal, the European Health Commission aims to develop innovations in this field, how, when and where ICTs should be used effectively, and to increase the digital equipment and knowledge of elderly care workers and patients.

 

ICT topics that we will work on in our project are as follows: advanced ICT assisted care, digital health (products of digital technologies serving in the field of health), electronic health (electronic products used in health care), technology assisted care (telehealth, telecare, telemedicine and telecoaching, etc.), wearable BIT materials (materials worn and worn on the body that convert physical signals from the body into technical data, eg heartbeat, movement, and other physical events).

 

 The individuals and organizations involved in the project team led by Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, which we have created for the use of ICTs in the health and care of the elderly, are as follows: professional health experts, elderly care experts, managers and employees, technology experts, academics, foundations and associations providing social support, in the field of health and technology. private organizations providing services, organizations providing services in the field of local, regional, national and international health. We aim to achieve versatile, professional and effective project results thanks to such an interdisciplinary and diverse project team.

Main activities in our project: Training of adult elderly care workers, ICT specialists, subject matter expert academics and adult participants from private institutions with a 5-day short-term training activity, planning, monitoring and evaluation of the work to be done with project meetings, Turkey Final conference in ., workshops in each partner country and studies within the scope of dissemination activities (presentations, academic articles, publications, website and many more). All of our outputs will be translated into Turkish, English, Italian, Spanish and German languages, and the project will be presented free of charge on our website.

 

Intellectual outputs: O1 scientific literature review, O2 methodological framework for the use of ICTs in elderly care, O4 patient monitoring software program and O3 policy recommendations (on behalf of Turkey and EU countries).

The method we used in the project is a mixed method and will include interviews, surveys, scientific report analysis and observations. Experts and academics in our project teams will present the mixed method in quantitative and qualitative formats.

Expected effects from our project:

-Adult health and elderly care workers will develop their knowledge, experience and expertise about ICTs and will be able to provide elderly care services with more professional and innovative methods.

- Adult health and elderly care workers will be able to develop their ability to collaborate and innovate with experts from different sectors in the project team.

-People and institutions in the project team will discover and experience the innovative use of ICT for elderly care and will be introduced to many innovative materials and applications.

-Health sector researchers, experts and academicians will be able to share their knowledge and experience in the field of health with adult elderly care workers in practice, conduct joint studies, gain realistic experiences about the practical applications of the knowledge repertoire in the academic world, and thus increase their professionalism.

-Project partner institutions will increase their international working capabilities on an institutional basis, and will have a multidisciplinary and broad knowledge about innovative and up-to-date ICTs in the field of aged care.

-In the long run, adult project participants and partner institutions will increase their individual and institutional cooperation capacities, take realistic steps towards the use of ICTs in elderly care, and make more robust decisions that suit the needs of the future.
