ENHANCING THE DEMAND-DRIVEN YOUTH EMPLOYMENT IN IT SECTORS

LTT 4 / Finland (LIAF)

The main purpose of this LTT is to enable common learning and exchange of ideas among the participants through various activities.

First of all, the host institution is our Finnish partner. The structure of this LTT is similar in format to C1, but the difference is that all training, workshops and topics covered are presented from a Finnish perspective. Study visits will be made to Finnish IT enterprises and the country's approach to youth employment has been tried to be determined.

   Participant profile by organization;

It consists of youth workers and researchers who are between the ages of 18-25, undergraduates and graduates, talented and interested in informatics issues, and youth workers and researchers who are actively working and providing services in the fields of information technologies. In addition to IT specialists, qualified HR managers are also among the participants.

From the coordinator: 5 young people and 3 youth workers/researchers participated. Actually, 5 young people and 2 youth workers should have participated, but a youth worker who contributed to the production of intellectual outputs, which was very supportive in our project activities, and was suitable for development, was also deemed appropriate to participate in the LTT activity. The budget of this person was met from other project items.
From Karaman Technopark: 2 IT business personnel/experts,

From Italy: 2 young people and 1 youth worker should have participated, but only 2 young people participated.
From Greece: 2 young people and 1 youth worker,
From Malta: 2 young people and 1 youth worker.
2 young and 3 youth workers from our host Finnish partner participated.

Purposes;

-Conducted as study visits/field trips to IT enterprises. These enterprises are to be able to identify Finland's approach to youth employment by visiting IT business firms located in the city of Helsinki, where the host partner is also contacted beforehand.
In this context, we tried to reach our goal with individual and group learning activities, workshops/trainings, interaction/participation activities, role-playing activities.
This LTT was run on a 5-day schedule;

  In this program:

  Day 1: Breaking the Ice, each partner and participant introduced themselves and the workshops started.
  Day 2: Workshops/Trainings were carried out in company with company officials.
  Day 3: A study visit was organized to the IT company Basware, which included individual and group learning activities.
  Day 4: A study including individual and group learning activities was carried out during the study visit to Nokia.
  Day 5: With Role Games, suitable environment and conditions were created for young people to act as HR and IT business managers.
  LTT was ended with the Evaluation of Events.

   The results of the activities;

   -Study visits/field trips to IT enterprises, IT youths were provided to visit IT enterprises. They were provided with short introductions and detailed courses from IT experts. IT services were provided to observe their qualifications, infrastructures, materials, tools, personnel skills and general operational qualities.
   During his visit to Basware company, he supported IT youth to learn various IT topics in terms of individual and group learning activities, depending on their individual interests, individual questions, inquiries and the topics they want to learn. Similarly, group learning activities helped young people learn and act in teams and teamwork skills.
  -Invited IT experts from Nokia and Basware companies were informed about the facts and figures of youth employment in the workshop-style event. They have obtained satisfactory information about the principles of youth employment, its disadvantages and the most needed areas.
  -As interaction activities, young people were provided with the opportunity to establish relationships with their peers (youth peer learning) and IT business personnel (positive adult role models) in safe spaces created to express themselves, share their knowledge and experience, and feel comfortable participating in independent activities. Again, it was tried to develop their ability to make joint decisions, to discuss their skills, qualifications and ideas.
   -Role playing activity was held at Basware company and they were made to imagine how they would act as IT and HR managers. It has been seen that this activity provides little experience of how their ideas and imaginations will work in real life with non-formal methods. In addition, this non-formal learning and exchange between participants gave young people ideas on how to establish contact between employers and employees.
