The department of Sociology founded with the decision of the made by the Council of Higher Education on 19 November 2008 consists of Sociology and Methodology, Social Structure and Change, Sociology of Institutions, Applied Sociology departments. The staff consists of 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 9 research assistants. 

The goal of Sociology Department is to develop understanding and critical analysis capacities of the students utilising technological developments in the light of contemporary scientific improvements and following the fundamental goals of Turkish Higher Education. By means of theoretical, methodological and practical formations, the program is designed to contain fundamental theoretical aspects of sociological analysis and research methods as well as a wide cultural background.

Theoretical training provides a comprehensive insight into social sciences and means for an interdisciplinary perception. Not only sociology students but also students from other areas will be provided necessary information, methods and techniques.

Methodological training will provide the opportunity to take part in various areas with a scientific research focus (universities, state or private research institutions, NGOs)

Practical training will provide the concepts and intellectual instruments which are necessary either for understanding and analysing the social mechanisms, behaviours and ideologies of various social actors or for conceptualization of general operation of political, social and economic aspects of life.
