TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE DEPARTMENT

Turkish Language and Literature Department; “Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literature”, “Old Turkish Literature”, “Turkish Folklore”, “Turkish Folk Literature”, “New Turkish Language” and “New Turkish Literature” which are opened with the decision taken at the meeting of Higher Education Executive Board dated on November 19, 2008, are the main branches of science.

It is known that Karaman and Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey have an important place in the history of Turkish. For this reason, Karaman is called “the capital of the Turkish language”. One of the oldest and greatest of the language that exist in the world today and whose numbers are approaching 3000, is our Turkic language. The fifth largest language in the world in terms of the number of people speaking is Turkish, the third largest language in the world in terms of the breadth of the area inhabited by people who speak. The total number of words in Turkish exceeds 200.000 with Anatolian Turkish, other dialects and accents.

Turkish language will be preserved by students and scientists who will be trained in Turkish Language and Literature Department.

Our graduates can be researcher in different institutions like universities. The ones who has already taken pedagogical training can be Turkish language and literature teachers in state schools after getting enough score in KPSS. Our graduates can also work in private schools, libraries, museums, archives etc...

Graduates of our department have the following qualifications:

1- Students learn how to reach any kind of written and visual sources of Turkish language and literature.

2- Students acquire advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the Turkish language and literature field.

3- Students use the traditional, contemporary, theoretical and practical knowledge in the Turkish language and literature field.

4- Students evaluate and interpret the current information with a critical approach by the help of their advanced level knowledge in the Turkish language and literature field.

5- Students can work individually and as team members in order to solve the problems in the Turkish language and literature field.

6- Students can develop language and literature sensitivity using the acquired knowledge of Turkish language and literature.

7- Students gain the ability of using Turkish language nice and effectively.

8- Students will be capable of understanding and expressing all aspects of oral and written material.

9- Students gain the ability of detecting changes in the meaning, structure and phonetic of Turkish language in a historical context.

10- Students can read and understand the historical and contemporary dialects of Turkish language in original alphabets.

11- Students can analyse and evaluate the poets, writers, works and events in Turkish literature.

12- Students will have the ability to produce original literary work.

13- Students make research, analysis and collection in order to interpret materials of Turkish culture.

14- Students can use the information and communication technologies in the field of Turkish language and literature.

15- Students can interpret and develop solution advices against the problems of Turkish language usages and share them with relevant persons, institutions and organizations.

             16- Students will be aware of the necessity of following up the developments and innovations inside and outside of their field.
