It is the branch of science where crooked teeth, jaw disharmony, facial profile disorders, respiratory problems, joint problems are diagnosed and the treatments of these problems are carried out. An orthodontist is a dentist who graduated from a doctoral program or specialization program in the department of orthodontics after a 5-year dentistry (undergraduate-graduate) education.
Orthodontic treatment aims to provide patients with a more proper tooth alignment, a healthier chewing function, a more aesthetic smile and a more beautiful facial profile. In addition, with a protective and preventive orthodontic treatment approach, parafunctional habits (finger sucking, nail biting, mouth breathing, infant swallowing, tongue thrusting, lip-cheek biting, pencil biting) are prevented and it is aimed to prevent gum problems and tooth wear that may arise as a result of dental crookedness. Orthodontic treatment is a rapidly developing branch of science that comprehensively carries out treatments not only for the mouth and teeth, but also for interconnected body structures such as the skeletal structure of the face, jaw joint, and airway.
